Qui Deum amat, conari non potest ut Deus ipsum contra amet.

De geen, die God bemint, kan niet pogen dat God hem ook zal beminnen.

Demonstratio

Si homo id conaretur, cuperet ergo (per corollarium propositionis 17 hujus) ut Deus quem amat non esset Deus et consequenter (per propositionem 19 partis III) contristari cuperet, quod (per propositionem 28 partis III) est absurdum. Ergo qui Deum amat &c. Q.E.D.

Betoging

Indien de mensch hier naar trachtte, zo zou hy begeren (volgens de Toegift van de zeventiende Voorstelling in dit deel) dat God, die hy bemint, geen God was, en by gevolg (volgens de negentiende Voorstelling van 't darde deel) begeren dat hy droevig wierd; 't welk (volgens d' achtëntwintigste Voorstelling van 't darde deel) ongerijmt is.

Proof.

For, if a man should so endeavour, he would desire (V. xvii. Coroll.) that God, whom he loves, should not be God, and consequently he would desire to feel pain (III. xix.); which is absurd (III. xxviii.). Therefore, he who loves God, &c. Q.E.D.
